Foundation FOCUS

In an effort to expand the Texas Credit Union Foundation's reach and make an impact on the lives of preschoolers to adults, we have embarked on a new financial education campaign; Foundation FOCUS, focusing on a financially secure future for Texans.

Foundation FOCUS, a statewide collaborative initiative with the National Credit Union Foundation (NCUF), will allow the Foundation to diversely impact communities of all shapes and sizes from cradle to grave.  Our financial education outreach will now include the promotion and teaching of Sammy the Savings Rabbit, Money Mammals, and Thrive By Five for preschool to elementary ages, BizKid$ for middle schoolers, the NEFE High School Financial Planning Program (HSFPP) for high school students, and Debt in Focus and the Consumer Credit Counseling Services curricula for adults, with a focus on the underserved.

The TCUF believes that financial education is critical to societal stability and feel that we should do our part to develop more competent, capable, and conscience citizens.  The reality is we are not born with decision-making skills.  We have to learn them, which means we need individuals willing and knowledgeable to teach these invaluable lessons.  To adequately prepare our youth for adulthood and keep adults on top of their finances, we must empower them with the tools, information, and skills necessary to save and invest in their future.

We hope to inspire natural person credit unions to enhance their own programs, assist educators with the delivery of financial education in Texas classrooms, help with the implementation of like programs in community organizations, and help credit unions to collaborate within their chapters to host events such as Reality Fairs.

With the expansion of our reach comes the growth of our financial education network; the Foundation FOCUS Network, Texans working together to improve the financial well being in their communities, from preschool to adulthood.  Please click on the Foundation FOCUS Network for a current list of Network members, or if you are interested in serving on the Network.

The Texas Credit Union Foundation is truly grateful to the National Credit Union Foundation for awarding a grant to implement this next phase of the TCUF's financial education outreach.  By working together with the NCUF who is chasing the same vision, we can truly make a difference...collaboration, not competition.  Please visit www.ncuf.org for more information on the many programs and products NCUF has to offer.
