2011 Grants Report

As of May 31, 2011, the Texas Credit Union Foundation had approved 52 grants to credit unions, chapters, and local partners totaling over $103,790 for credit union training and education, financial education initiatives, and local outreach programs including, but not limited to:

For twelve (12) grant and sponsorship approvals for financial education programs conducted by organizations such as the National Youth Involvement Board, the Foundation’s 5th annual FOCUS awards, NYIB Scholarships, Foundation FOCUS Network, and .
$7,500 For fifteen (15) grants to support Make the Difference efforts throughout Texas.

For five (5) grant approvals to various branches of Junior Achievement:

  • JA of Angelina & Nacogdoches County – elementary programs in 10 additional classrooms;
  • JA of Texarkana – 8th grade “Economics for Success” program;
  • JA of West Texas – “JA Presents the NEFE HSFPP” in Odessa and Big Spring;
  • JA of Great Tyler – elementary school program, partnering with Altra FCU;
  • JA of Titus County – 3rd grade “Our City” program
$25,000 For twelve (12) individual credit union applications for training calendar and conference grants.

For six (6) grant approvals that benefited groups of credit unions such as the Texas Credit Union Department, TCUL Training Resources for sponsorship of the General Session Lunch @ TCUL Annual Meeting, the NCUF Herb Wegner Awards Dinner, REAL Solutions, SCMS, at the TCUL Youth & Millennial Task Force.

For one (1) disaster relief grant – WOCCU Disaster Relief Fund to assist Australia credit unions damaged by the brushfires.

For one (1) grant to CPM – Caja Popular Mexico for their annual training calendar. Grant award can be used to attend DE training, SCMS, or any professional development training or seminar.
$1,700 For one (1) scholarship to a credit union professional to complete the CU Development Educator Program.

For five (5) disaster relief grants - National Credit Union Foundation’s CUAid.coop for the Iowa floods, Hurricane Ike Disaster Relief Fund, TCUL for Hurricane Counseling Program, and Jackie Kirkegard, employee of MCT CU and Sheena Renee Hill of Big Spring Education Employees, both of whom lost their homes to an accidental fire.

Financial Literacy Fund

  • Texas Council on Economic Education to sponsor “Bringing Financial Literacy to Everyone”, NEFE workshops held throughout the state;
  • Security One FCU – partnership with the Boys & Girls Club of Arlington – “Money Matters” program;
  • Biz Kid$ Financial Education Series on PBS – production of 3rd season
